Enthusiasts warn Super Eagles to tread with caution

Abuja – Some sports enthusiasts on Thursday in Abuja expressed the belief that the Super Eagles would overwhelm the Walya Antelopes on Saturday in Calabar but urged the team to tread with caution.

The fans, in Abuja, urged the team to guard against complacency.

Godfrey Gaiya, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Sports, said Nigerians expected them to win as usual.

“Like every other Nigerian our expectation is to go there and win.

“You see nothing is over until it is over because football is all about surprises; we cannot go there with all the confidence that most of us are exercising.

“We must go there with the expectation that at the end of 90 minutes a winner must emerge, and it will be Nigeria but that does not mean that we should be over confident.”

The Chairman of Taraba FC, Tijani Babangida, said that the Super Eagles would qualify for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

According to him, the Super Eagles are more experienced than the Ethiopians, saying that they would over power them in the game.

“I have also relaxed because I know it is a game that we will win but I know it will not be an easy game but for sure we will overpower them because they are inexperienced players.

“We have one celebration we are doing already which is the Golden Eaglets and we have the second one in Calabar on Saturday when we qualify,” he said.

Chairman of the Nigerian Nationwide League (NNWL), Ahmed Kawu, said he was very confident that the Eagles would qualify for the World Cup and make the country proud like the Golden Eaglets.

He added that the players should not be overconfident and urged them to concentrate on the match until the final whistle.

Kawu also called on Nigerians to come out and cheer the team to encourage them to perform better than they did in the first leg.

The Chairman of the FCT FA, Alhaji Musa Talle, said that he was very sure that the boys would bring another round of celebrations to Nigeria, adding that it was the season for celebrations.

He said that there was no need for fear about the Eagles qualifying for the Brazil 2014. (NAN)
